The Latest Gossip on BFT Consensus
Buchman, Kwon, and Milosevic specify Tendermint as gossip-based BFT atomic broadcast with proposer, prevote, precommit, locking, and eventual-synchrony arguments.
The paper gives a compact protocol account and proof-oriented treatment of Tendermint's round structure. Its useful bridge is from classical fully connected BFT descriptions to a blockchain setting where nodes gossip messages through partial peer views.
Current deployments use CometBFT documentation and code as the implementation authority. Terminology and subtle lock-change behavior must be reconciled with that maintained specification.
