Post 1941: The Five Immediately Subcomplete Systems — Access-Bounded Note

A deliberately narrow note on the publicly visible openings of Post's 1941 monograph. The opening of Section 26 states the five-system completeness criterion, but the book body was not obtained or read in full.

The registered source is Emil L. Post's 1941 monograph, The Two-Valued Iterative Systems of Mathematical Logic. No full book PDF was legitimately obtained. An official 14-page preview was read completely, but it contains only front matter, the contents, and Introduction pages 1–5. It is intentionally not archived as if it were the monograph.

Public JSTOR section-opening surfaces expose bounded passages:

  • the opening of Section 1 distinguishes an operation or method from the extensional function it yields;
  • the opening of Section 3 separates a formal expression, its interpreted function, and the values assigned to its variables;
  • the opening sentences of Section 26, printed page 105, name exactly five immediately subcomplete closed systems, state that every non-complete closed system lies in at least one of them, and give the corresponding generator criterion.

The official 14-page preview contains the title matter, contents, and Introduction pages 1–5 only; it contains none of those three sections.

The bodies of Sections 1, 3, and 26 were not read. Modern names such as T0T_0, T1T_1, MM, SS, and LL are a later crosswalk and must be sourced separately. This record supports only the visible historical statements; it is not a breakdown of the complete monograph.
