SEC 2 Version 1.0 — Recommended Elliptic Curve Domain Parameters

SECG's 2000 catalogue defines named prime-field and binary-field curve parameter sextuples, including secp256k1 and secp256r1, plus identifiers and then-current strength mappings.

SEC 2 specifies each prime-field curve as T=(p,a,b,G,n,h)T=(p,a,b,G,n,h) and gives interoperable encodings, names, and OIDs. Its secp256k1 parameters remain consensus-relevant to Bitcoin and Ethereum, while secp256r1 is the same curve commonly called P-256 in NIST contexts.

Version 1.0 also lists small curves, binary curves, SHA-1-based generation descriptions, and cross-standard status as of 2000. Those tables are not present recommendations; use SEC 2 v2 and NIST SP 800-186 for current parameter guidance.
