ATmega8(L) Complete Datasheet (Atmel, 2013)
The supplied 331-page primary device manual for the original ATmega8 and low-voltage ATmega8L. It remains authoritative for those historical parts, while current ATmega8A design work must use Microchip's ATmega8A data sheet and current errata.
This is one of the two admissible primary documents in the supplied PMPS-2 folder. Its 331 pages define the original ATmega8(L): AVR core, memories, system control, peripherals, programming methods, and electrical characteristics.
Scope and current replacement #
The document is exact for the named historical silicon and revision. It is not silently promoted into an ATmega8A manual. GTK archives it because old boards and firmware still depend on its register maps and device-specific behavior, then uses the 2020 Microchip ATmega8A data sheet for present-day ATmega8A claims.
The architectural chapters materially informed the AVR and generic peripheral decomposition. Device-selection claims, electrical numbers, ordering information, and pin details do not transfer across suffixes.
Mechanisms preserved #
- thirty-two directly connected working registers and the
X,Y, andZpointer pairs; - separate program and data memories, memory-mapped I/O, SRAM, EEPROM, and flash;
- clock selection, reset sources, brown-out detection, sleep, and watchdog behavior;
PINx/DDRx/PORTxinteraction and alternate pin functions;- interrupt vectors and source-flag lifecycle;
- timer prescaling, counting, compare, capture, and PWM modes;
- USART, SPI, and two-wire communication;
- ADC channel selection, reference choice, conversion timing, and analog comparator;
- self-programming and serial programming boundaries.
Visual audit #
All 331 pages were rendered and inspected. Load-bearing visuals include the AVR core block diagram, register and memory maps, clock/reset distribution, GPIO cell, timer mode and waveform diagrams, USART/SPI/TWI timing, ADC sample path, boot-memory partition, programming connections, and electrical timing graphs.
GTK does not copy these device-manual figures. Generic entries use independent diagrams that preserve the mechanism without implying that ATmega8 register names or electrical limits are universal. The archived manual remains the source for exact ATmega8(L) pinouts, register bits, timing, and programming sequences.
PMPS-2 exclusions #
Lab67.pdf, Lab6.docx, Lab7.docx, Lab_1.docx through Lab_4.docx, and PMS5.docx are completed student submissions. They were classified and excluded entirely. Their code, Proteus screenshots, copied register tables, measurements, conclusions, and visual material were not used.
